Meet More Mamas

CAPE COAST

Cape Coast is home to our first, and largest, production location. Our six founding Mamas came together in 2003 to produce the first Global Mamas product line. Today the Cape Coast Global Mamas community is comprised of over 60 independent, women-owned businesses. In Cape Coast Global Mamas partners with batikers and seamstresses who work from their own shops or from their homes.

Managing the production of hundreds of unique products in partnership with small independently run businesses scattered throughout the community requires great organization and skill. People Development Director Patience Essibu, Global Mamas first employee hired back in 2004, leads the way at this location. She accomplishes this task with the support of a talented management team, many whom have been with Global Mamas for years.  Most of the Global Mamas design team in addition to an enthusiastic team of Quality Control ‘Champions’ collaborate with the Mamas to make sure everyone is on the same page as we seek to offer consistently high quality product to our customers.

KROBO ODUMASE

Krobo Odumase is home to the second Global Mamas location that opened in 2006. Leveraging the success of the Mamas in Cape Coast we replicated the model in Krobo with the skilled producers of recycled glass beads. We now work directly with a range of family-run beadmaking businesses in Odumase and surrounding areas, in addition to employing a staff of 25 jewelry assemblers and weavers in our office/production center. This location is managed almost single-handedly by the indomitable Gladys Adimer that first started as a jewelry assembler with Global Mamas in 2006 and has worked her way up to managing every aspect of our Krobo location.

AKUSE

Originally located in the town of Prampram producing textile goods, this office relocated to Ashaiman in August 2012 then again to Akuse in the Eastern Region in Fall 2019.  In close proximity to the Volta River (for sourcing water hyacinth) as well as the land purchased for the future Fair Trade Zone, we look forward to putting down roots and getting to know this community better. Long time manager Amos Agbenyo Kporshiebu continues to lead the team in their new location, with the support of Inventory Manager Jennifer Aheteku.

ACCRA

Global Mamas opened the first fair trade store in Ghana in the Osu neighborhood of Ghana’s capital. We’re incredibly proud of this flagship store that offers our full range of handcrafted products and boasts the best customer service in all of Ghana! Dorcas Baiden, formerly Co-Manager at our Ashaiman location is the Manager at this location, keeping store operations running smoothly with her team of shop assistants. Learn more here about the Global Mamas Store in Accra.

In Accra a small but mighty team made up of Rosemary Odoom, Sylvester Kunkaa and Renae Adam who work together to ensure each location has what it needs to keep on running. This office also manages the logistics of getting out monthly shipments to our North American team for international customers.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN

Global Mamas also has an office in Minneapolis, MN. In 2006 this office relocated from Kristin’s spare bath tub to an amazing studio arts building in the Northeast Arts District. While we all wish we could be in Ghana, we love working for the Mamas and spend most of our time developing our customer service skills while coordinating with terrific retail partners from around the globe. Amy and Anna keep the orders going out the door, Kristin does a little bit of everything, while Creative Director Alice works remotely from Michigan.
