Eugenia Akuete (right) packages black soap with her staff in Ofankor, Ghana. Eugenia was born in Ghana in 1948. In 1981 she moved to the United States where she lived for twenty years and raised three children in the state of Maryland. In 2000, she returned to Ghana to help care for her aging mother, and in order to see family in both countries, she would carry along a suitcase of shea butter to help subsidize the cost of each journey.

Black Soap Production Center
Global Mamas Dandy Lion black soap is produced by Naasakle Ltd, owned and founded by Mrs. Eugenia Akuete. Through the production of black soap, Eugenia provides dependable, well-paying, and supportive employment for many women and men in Accra. While this work has an immediate positive impact on their lives, it also touches the lives of their families extending across Ghana's many regions. For the production of the shea butter used in Dandy Lion shea soap, Eugenia works closely with 700 women in one of Ghana's most poverty-stricken regions. For these women, harvesting shea nuts and producing shea butter is one of the few ways they can help support their families, so the committed business relationship they share with Eugenia is invaluable. With support from Global Mamas, Eugenia is expanding her company's marketing capacity and focusing on further communicating the quality of its products and the integrity of its business practices.
