Entrepreneurship & Micro-Enterprise Volunteer Opportunities in Africa

Entrepreneurship & Micro-Enterprise Development

One of Global Mamas’ main goals is to help women in Ghana manage their growing micro-businesses by providing hands-on assistance. Global Mamas' volunteers work side by side with our Mamas to achieve their business goals including:

  • Development of a business plan for expansion.
  • Implementation of expansion activities.
  • Financial review and improvement of financial systems.
  • Development of marketing and sales strategies to increase sales.

With Kathy's help, Global Mamas instituted an evaluation tool to screen Global Mamas applicants to ensure the Mama practices fair trade in her small business. Using Kathy's evaluation tool, Global Mamas now evaluates Mamas in the following ways:

  • Profile the applicants to identify their strengths and needs in terms of equipment, skills, and language proficiency.
  • Rank the applicants adherence to Global Mamas' mission and determine commitment, motivation, and ability to grow business.
  • Evaluate an applicant's workshop and quality of samples produced.
  • Create a long-term, goal-setting, development plan with each woman entering the program.

Kathy says the close interaction with the women was critical to her project's success. She was particularly touched by Grace, one of the new Global Mamas, who assured her: "I trust myself. I will not disappoint you."

"Two weeks was much too short!"
