Jewelry Design Volunteer Opportunities in AfricaJewelry Design

Global Mamas provides sustainable livelihoods for women in Africa by promoting their traditional skills in the production of fair trade jewelry. All of our jewelry products are made with 100% recycled materials including glass, plastic or scrap fabric. Each year Global Mamas produces a new line of jewelry to be included in our annual catalog. We are always seeking fresh ideas of visiting designers. There are many ways in which we could put your skills to use:

  • Begin by spending time with our bead makers to learn the traditional art of glass bead making.
  • Design new jewelry products - we will surround you with a tremendous variety of beads and other materials to inspire you.
  • Work with our bead makers to develop new options for their existing beads.
  • Provide training to our jewelry producers to enhance their jewelry production and beading skills.

"This trip changed my perspective of my place in the global community. As a teacher I will use this experience to try and educate my students about the responsibility we all have as members of this same Earth. I don't mean to say that as an American I am responsible for the progress of these women. Rather, I mean that I am responsible for making myself more aware of the situation of people outside of my sphere, and that we are all members of a global community and can benefit from one another."
