Photography Volunteer Opportunities in Africa

The success of Global Mamas very much depends on our ability to convey the impact of our work through photos. Photography projects include:

  • Share our Mamas' personal stories through photos capturing aspects of their professional and family lives and highlighting their achievements.
  • Update the Meet the Mamas section of our website with fresh pictures and stories.
  • Tell the Global Mamas' story through photos capturing the work we do at each location or showcasing special projects.
  • Educate consumers on our production processes in textiles, recycled glass beads, and shea butter skin care products by documenting the process through photos.
  • Plan and execute photo shoots that highlight our products through fashion and lifestyle shots.

Past Photography Projects

Desirae Early - Marketing and Media volunteer in Africa

Desirae Early
Emeryville, California

Desirae used her experience with photography and marketing to:

  • Photograph many of the mamas wearing stylish combinations of jewelry and clothing from the 2011 product line for the website.
  • Design postcards to advertise Global Mamas products for the Accra retail store.
  • Photograph Global Mamas producers in Krobo to feature in their online profiles.
  • Prepare products for an upcoming shipment.

Desirae was excited about the opportunity to use her experience with photography and marketing to help make an impact for the Mamas. She notes that, while getting the women to relax and loosen up for the photos was difficult in the beginning, it was very rewarding when she was able to get them to open up and take great photographs. One of her favorite parts was doing a group shot of all of the women in Krobo, proudly wearing the products that they created.

"I learned so much working with the women in Ghana and also from discussions with all of the wonderful people I met. Being in Ghana and experiencing the culture is such a rewarding experience, one that left me feeling refreshed and revitalized."
