Meet The Women
Photos:
In the mornings, Dinah Amuzu teaches a class of 5-yr-olds. The pay isn’t great, so to help supplement her husband Thomas’s income as a tailor, she has started making beaded jewelry at the Fair Trade Center that Thomas helps run. Dinah, 40, says she was keen to take up a new skill. “I heard they wanted to help ladies and I am a lady!” As well as helping to pay for her 3 children’s education, Dinah wants to return to school herself to earn a degree in education so she can teach older children and raise her income even further.
Fair Trade Center, Bead Assembler
Bead-Making Center (Krobo)
WIP is working with the Fair Trade Center in Odumase-Krobo for the assembly of Global Mamas beaded products. The training center was founded by Gladys Adimer and Thomas Amuzu in 2007. Together, they provide employment to more than 10 young women who struggle to make ends meet. Most of the women, aged 18 upwards, have completed junior secondary school. The center provides training in product assembly and a fair living wage.
