Prior to joining Women in Progress, Janet Sagoe had a hard time collecting payments from her customers.
Janet "Aba" Sagoe, Seamstress
Batiking & Sewing Center (Cape Coast)
Janet "Aba" Sajoe is the owner of Amazing Grace Fashions. As each Ghanaian has a day name, Janet goes by the Fante name, Aba, meaning she was born on Thursday. Both of her parents have died and so she lives with her aunt in Elmina, along with her husband and two young children. Aba has been a seamstress for a decade, and established her business a few years ago near the University of Cape Coast. She has trouble selling her goods in that area because most of her customers are students and they do not come to her regularly. Many students order a product at a certain price and promised Aba payment on delivery. Yet when she brings them the product, they may pay only a fraction of the price and offer a promise to pay the rest in a month. Delayed payments had made it impossible for Aba's business to grow, until she found Global Mamas.
