By November 2008, Suwaiba Alhassen, the youngest of six, was 19 years old, had been with Trashy Bags for a year, and managed to strictly stick to her savings plan every month. She gives 20 cedis to her mother every month (who currently sells plantains by the roadside), saves 30 cedis, and the leftover 30 cedis she uses for whatever she wants. Her job at Trashy Bags is sorting the bags, which brings in 50 more cedis a month than her last job doing housework. It’s through this system that she feels she can save enough money to go to school to become a nurse. Even after less than a year working at Trashy Bags, she was promoted from cutting and washing the bags to her current position, which included a 20 cedis/month raise. She is currently working towards another promotion to seamstress, and with the help of Risi Kafu Yalaya teaching her, she should get the promotion by summer of 2009.
